Hi,

I met you two at JC Pride and bought a few items. I think your designs are wonderful, as is the idea behind fitting all sorts of women. BUT, I think you need to go beyond (a smallish) size XL.

There is a lot of discussion around and politics of size/fat inside the queer and feminist communities. Designers who cater specifically to women of all stripes should be more cognizent of the difference in female shapes and sizes. My ex was a 4XL and had to shop at men's stores. I am sure she would LOVE your T-shirts...I am also a member of NOLOSE (check us out at nolose.org) and very conscious of size and the difficulty in finding decent, comfortable and fasionable clothing that fits.

Thanks for reading.

To Anonymous,

Thank you for supporting Lipstick and Wildflowers and your comments regarding our clothing line. I checked out the "Nolose" website. It seems that your organization is doing great and positive work for plus size women in the LGBT community.

I have to admit I don't recall anyone inquiring about larger sizes at Jersey City Pride. If anyone had asked, they would have found out that we take custom
orders for larger sizes if the manufacturer carries the size. In addition, we had larger sizes on display from a "larger" x-large to 2x.

As a former plus size woman myself-size 18, 205 pounds-I am sensitive to the issues faced by the plus size woman in shopping. I am aware that the average size of a woman in the US is a size 14. However, we are an up and coming clothing
line and many of the designs by my partner, Tracey are created on tees that have restrictive sizing from the manufacturer. Larger sizes must be ordered in "large
quantities" that we are unable to purchase nor do we have the demand for by our clients at this time. The t-shirts that we are able to get in larger sizes are "boxy" and are made of heavy cotton---your typical run of the mill tee. As I'm sure you noticed when you visited our booth, our tees are of an extremely high quality and of unusally soft material. As stated in our press release on our website, the whole concept behind our clothing line is to design clothing for the gay woman that is fitted and stylish. We want to get away from the "boxy tee" look. In addition, while we try to accommodate the plus size woman when possible, many have balked at having to pay a higher price for larger sized tees. When ordering tees from our manufacturer the cost to us is greater, and we have to pass that along to the client.

Unfortunately, a clothing line can't be everything to everyone. There is definitely a niche for clothing for the plus size woman that needs to be filled. While we don't target that market exclusively in our line, we do what we can with our custom orders. I can recommend one clothing line...their website is
www.bandlu.com that has REALLY cool clothes, which specializes in tees that are sized from 14 to 30. I'm not sure if they are gay owned, but they do advertise in GO NYC Magazine.

Peace and Blessings,
